Candle care

Our decorative sculpture candles are designed to elevate your space as a statement piece. If you do wish to burn them, here are a few tips:

  • First thing’s first, trim my wick to 5–6 mm before each burn.
  • Let me spill the tea. Pop a tray or flat dish under me to catch any melting wax.
  • I hate being left alone. I love a 2–3 hour session, but keep me within sight, away from drafts, and out of reach of children and pets.
  • I'm a burn-me-all-up kinda chick. Scoop up my drips and unmelted wax and give them a second, fragrant life in a wax melter.

Shipping & dispatch

Every order is made or packed by hand, in small batches, so please allow 2–3 business days for your order to be prepared before it ships.

Delivery: Flat rate shipping $11.99 · Free shipping on orders over $99

Local pickup: Available on weekends from Nani & Co. Studio in Burwood by appointment.

Christmas cut-off dates: to make sure your order arrives in time, please place Christmas orders by 30th November for standard shipping or 3rd December for local pickup/Christchurch delivery. Orders placed after this date are still very welcome – I just can't guarantee the order fulfilment by Christmas.

Handmade & natural variation

Because every candle is made by hand, it may differ slightly from the photos and can have minor imperfections. Wax can frost over time, and you might see white marks appear. That’s natural for soy and coconut wax, and not a flaw.

Why handmade costs what it does

I get asked this occasionally, and I'd rather just tell you honestly than have you wonder.

When I started Nani & Co., I wanted to make candles I'd actually be comfortable having around the people (and pets) I love, which meant being fairly particular about what went into them. That particularity costs more than the alternative.

The wax
I use soy and pure coconut wax rather than cheaper paraffin blends because they burn cleaner and hold fragrance properly, right to the bottom of the jar. Coconut wax especially isn't cheap; it costs more than most alternatives – but it's genuinely the better wax for your long-burning candle.

The fragrance
Every fragrance I use is IFRA-certified, with no parabens and none of the nastier stuff some cheaper fragrance oils contain. That's a real cost difference, and it's not one I'm willing to cut.

The sourcing
My wax and supplies come from a small New Zealand supplier who employs people with Down syndrome – so before the wax even reaches my table, it has already come from work that matters. I could source it cheaper elsewhere. I choose not to.

The time
Every candle here is still poured, and often hand-painted, by me. Sculptural pieces can take multiple pours and a full cure before they're ready. There's no factory line shortcut for that.

None of this is a complaint – I love making things this way, slowly and intentionally. But I also think you deserve to know what you're actually paying for, rather than just being told to trust me.
